Shoremen Hand Patriots First Setback of Season, 67-58

Four Players Tally Double Figures for Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College used a 24-7 second half run to turn a 39-34 deficit into a 58-46 lead on its way to a 67-58 win over visiting Valley Forge on Thursday night in a non-conference men's basketball game on Finnegan Court.  The Shoremen are now 2-2 on the season, while the Patriots fall to 3-1.

How It Happened
- Valley Forge took a 13-9 lead with 11:59 to go in the first half before Washington went on a 16-3 run to take a 25-16 advantage with 6:30 to go in the first half on a Davis Bland jumper with 6:30 to go in the stanza.
- The Patriots outscored the Shoremen 9-3 the rest of the half to cut the lead to 28-25 at intermission
- In the second half, Valley Forge outscored Washington 14-6 in the first 7:37 of the half to take a 39-34 lead with 12:23 to go on a jumper.
- Ben Costello would score the first six points of the game-deciding 24-7 run to put Washington ahead for good, 40-39, with 11:05 to go on a traditional three-point play.
- Anthony Seoage capped the run with a pair of free throws with 3:35 remaining that put the home side ahead 58-46. 
- The Patriots got within nine points three times the rest of the game.

For The Shoremen (1-2)
- Bland (15 points, six rebounds and three assists), Precieux Tshibangu (12 points, six rebounds and two blocks), Costello and Seoage (10 points), Ty Woodland (six rebounds), Nolan Waldon (three steals)
- The Shoremen shot 41% (22-for-54) from the floor, 39% (9-for-23) from three-point range and 56% (14-for-25) from the foul line. 
- Washington had 37 rebounds and 20 turnovers.
- The Shoremen outscored the Patriots in points off turnovers (19-17) and bench points (22-8).
- Tshibangu was named the Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
- The Shoremen outscored the Patriots 27-3 from three-point range.
