Shorewomen Turn Away Pioneers in Tennessee, 18-8

Chambers Tallies Career-High Seven Points for Washington

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Washington College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 14-2 halftime lead on its way to an 18-8 victory over Carroll on Monday afternoon in a non-conference women's lacrosse game played at Sewanee University in Tennessee on Puett Field.  Junior attacker Tobin Chambers (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) tallied a career-best seven points on five goals and two assists.  The Shorewomen improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 4-1.

How It Happened
- After Chambers scored the first two goals of the game for WC, Elizabeth Wang got Carroll on the board with 11:16 to go in the first quarter.
- The Shorewomen would take control of the game by scoring the next 12 goals, with the first eight coming in the first quarter.  Chambers began the run on a free position goal with 10:39 left in the first and scored 20 seconds later from Mia Salvatierra to make it 4-1 as she scored the team's first four on the day. 
- Sutherland capped the first quarter scoring on a pass from Chambers with 2:53 to go in the stanza as Chambers factored in half of the squad's goals as WC held a 10-1 advantage.
- Elisabeth Braswell opened the second quarter scoring with 13:35 to go on a free position and the run was capped by a Chambers score from Anna Wilson with 3:22 left in the second to make it 14-1.
- The Pioneers would end the run with 12 ticks left in the second on a goal by Elaina Phaneuf from Wang as the Shorewomen took a 14-2 lead into halftime.
- Carroll outscored Washington 3-1 in the third to trim it to 15-5 after three and both teams scored three times in the fourth to provide the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (6-1)
- Scoring: Chambers (career-high seven points, team-best five goals; two assists and game-high four ground balls), Mia Salvatierra (personal-best four assists and goal), Sutherland (three goals), Ellie Bossi (two goals and assist for personal-best three points), Brahswell (two goals), Abby Laubach (goal and helper)
- In Goal: McKenna Seashole (30:00, four saves, two goals), Emily Markley (15:00, one save, three goals), Maddy Kissinger (15:00, one save, three goals)
- Laubach and Wilson (team-high four draw controls)
- WC went 12-for-13 in clears, went 4-for-6 in free position shots and picked up 17 ground balls.
- The Shorewomen outshot the Pioneers 30-17 and won 17 of the game's 29 draw controls.

For Carroll (4-1)
- Scoring: Wang (five goals and team-best six points)
- In Goal: Devon Duym (36:00, four saves, 14 goals), Sydney Everett (24:00, zero saves, four goals)
- Grace Tumilty (game-topping five draw controls and two caused turnovers), Abby Stas (three ground balls)
- The Pioneers went 10-for-16 in clears and tied in the amount of turnovers with WC, 15-15.
- Carroll went 1-for-2 in free position chances and totaled 15 ground balls.

Notes
- Washington and Carroll met for the first time this afternoon.  It was also the first time the Shorewomen played a team from the Central Time Zone.
- Scoring their first collegiate goals in the game for the Shorewomen were Lexi Vennera and Valerie Rock.
