#13 Spartans Fast Start Too Much for Shorewomen, 16-11

Wilson Tallies Team-Best Three Goals

YORK, Pa. – Host #13 York (Pa.) scored the game's first five goals and never trailed on its way to a 16-11 win against Washington College on Saturday afternoon at Kinsley Field in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.  The Spartans improved to 2-3 on the season, while the Shorewomen are now 6-2.

How It Happened
- The Spartans scored twice in six seconds to take a 2-0 lead.  Zoe Kluegel scored unassisted 70 seconds into the first quarter and six ticks later Sydney Mentzer gave the home side a two-goal lead.
- Mentzer capped the five-goal opening run for the Spartans with 4:19 to go in the quarter.
- Piper Evans got Washington onto the board with 3:08 to go in the first on an up goal.
- York would score the final two goals of the first quarter with Madison Kurland notching the final goal with 93 seconds left to make it 7-1 after one.
- The Shorewomen outscored the Spartans, 4-3, in the second quarter to cut the lead to 10-5 at halftime with Tobin Chambers netting a tally with three seconds to go to round out the second quarter scoring.
- WC would score the first two goals of the third to reduce the deficit to 10-7 with 9:03 remaining on an Ashley Devlin goal from Abby Laubach.
- That's as close as the Shorewomen would get as Kate Walsh scored the next two for the Spartans and that would start a 6-2 run that saw York take a 16-9 lead with 4:44 to go in the fourth quarter on a Sofie Steel score.
- Washington got the final two goals of the game to provide the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (6-2)
- Scoring: Laubach (two goals and two assists), Anna Wilson (three goals), Morgan Sutherland (two assists and goal), Evans (two goals)
- In Goal: McKenna Seashole (60:00, 10 saves, 16 goals)
- Wilson (team-best four draw controls) and Peyton Baldwin (career-high four ground balls)
- The Shorewomen had 17 turnovers.
- WC went a 16-for-21 in clears, went 0-for-5 in free position shots and 19 ground balls.

For #13 York (Pa.) (2-3)
- Scoring: Kurland and Steel (three goals and two assists), Walsh (three goals), Kluegel and Mentzer (two goals and assist), Krista Yarusso (goal and two assists)
- In Goal: Bella Garabo (60:00, seven saves, 11 goals)
- Mentzer (four ground balls, three caused turnovers and contest-high eight draws)
- The Spartans, who held a 36-29 advantage in shots, went 18-for-21 in clears and had 15 turnovers.
- York went 0-for-3 in free position chances and totaled 17 ground balls.

Notes
- Seashole transferred to Washington from York after last season.
- Today was the team's last non-conference game of the campaign.
