Shorewomen Figure Out Profs’ Exam, 13-12

Salvatierra Tallies Game-Winner with 40 Seconds Remaining

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Visiting Washington College scored the last two goals of the game, including the game-winner from sophomore attacker Mia Salvatierra (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) with 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter from senior defender/midfielder Abby Laubach (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) in a 13-12 win over host Rowan in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Wednesday afternoon at Wackar Stadium.  The Shorewomen improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Profs slip to 2-2.

How It Happened
- The two teams alternated goals in the first quarter with the Shorewomen scoring first and the Profs responding all three times for a 3-3 tie after one.
- Anna Wilson gave Washington its first two-goal lead of the game, 5-3, with 8:58 left in the second.
- Rowan would score two of the next three goals to trim it to 6-5 with 3:55 remaining on a Calista Burke score.
- Piper Evans completed the scoring in the second quarter with 45 ticks left to give the Shorewomen a 7-5 edge into halftime.
- The Profs scored the first three goals of the third quarter to take their first lead of the game, 8-7, with 8:19 to go on a Burke goal from Molly Green.
- WC would score the next two to retake the lead, 9-8, with 4:17 left on a Tobin Chambers tally.
- Trish Gillen would level the game, 9-9, with 26 seconds to go in the third.
- Washington would win the ensuing draw and the ball eventually ended up in the stick of Salvatierra and her long distance shot from 15 yards out found the upper left portion of the goal with six seconds remaining to put the visiting side ahead 10-9 entering the fourth.
- Salvatierra would give the Shorewomen a two-goal edge, 11-9, with 10:22 to go in the fourth quarter.
- Rowan would net the next three goals to take a 12-11 lead with 1:57 to go on a free position tally by Hannah Lombardo.  Burke had tied the game at 11-11 with 4:20 to go.
- The Profs would win the ensuing draw control, but Morgan Sutherland was able to steal the ball to set up the Washington offense.  Sutherland completed the sequence with the game-tying goal with 1:10 to go to knot it at 12-12.
- Laubach would win the next draw control and found Salvatierra, who scored from the right side inside the eight-meter to put the Shorewomen ahead by one with 40 ticks left.
- Anna Wilson would gain control of the draw and the Shorewomen ran out the clock.

For The Shorewomen (5-1)
- Scoring: Salvatierra (four goals), Devlin (two goals and two assists), Evans and Sutherland (two goals), Laubach (goal and assist)
- In Goal: McKenna Seashole (60:00, 17 saves, 12 goals)
- Wilson and MaryCate Anson (team-high four draw controls) and Seashole (three ground balls)
- WC went 16-for-23 in clears, went 3-for-4 in free position shots and picked up 13 ground balls.

For Rowan (2-2)
- Scoring: Burke (four goals), Lombardo and Alexis Lowry (two goals), Green and Fiona Lockhart (goal and assist)
- In Goal: Mel Rodgers (60:00, 11 saves, 13 goals)
- Lombardo and Sophia Schiavo (five draw controls), Green (seven caused turnovers and six ground balls)
- The Profs went 13-for-17 in clears and had one more turnover than WC, 17-16.
- Rowan held a 40-29 advantage in shots, went 2-for-8 in free position chances and totaled 15 ground balls.

Notes
- Washington has won nine of the past 13 meetings against Rowan.
- The Shorewomen are 2-0 this season in one-goal games, the other coming in a 14-13 overtime win at Stevenson on February 24.
