CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College and visiting Ursinus split a Centennial Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Athey Baseball Park. The Shoremen took game one, 18-8, in eight innings due to the 10-run rule before the Bears answered with a 7-2 victory in game two. Washington is now 7-23 on the season and 2-7 in the Centennial, while Ursinus is 11-16 and 4-5 respectively.
Washington College 18 Ursinus 8 (Game 1)
How It Happened
- Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-out single to right-center by
Peter Balos that scored
Andrew Richter.
- The Shoremen answered back with three in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.
Ty Everitt scored on a base hit up the middle by
Logan Yi with nobody out to tie it and the next hitter,
Drew Kinsey chased in both
Will Turner and Yi on a double to left to give WC a two-run advantage after one.
- In the bottom of the second, Everitt came home on a one out groundout by Yi to shortstop and Turner touched the dish on a
Zach Stolze base hit through the right side to make it 5-1.
- After the first two WC hitters were retired in the last of the third, the Shoremen scored twice to go up by six.
Nick Miller scored on a triple to right-center by Everitt to make it 6-1 and Everitt completed the trip around the diamond on a single down the left field line by Turner to push the lead to 7-1.
- In the last of the fourth, Yi came around to score on a single to left by Kinsey with zero away to give the home side an 8-1 lead after four.
- Ursinus would score seven times in its next three trips to the dish to tie it at 8-8 in the seventh.
- In the fifth, with one out,
George Nestor scored on an infield single to third by Richter to cut the deficit to 8-2. The next hitter,
Shane Beaver delivered a two-run single to plate
Brandon Sullivan and
Jakob Cantor. On the play, a throw to try to get Richter at third got away and scored to trim the lead to 8-5 after five.
- In the top of the sixth the Bears got two to reduce the advantage to a single run. With nobody out and the bases loaded, Richter was plunked and it allowed
Cory Burns to score and it was a two-run game. Two hitters later Cantor scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of
Barritt Ross and it was 8-7.

Jude Gilhool tied the game at 8-8 in the top of the seventh on a one-out base hit up the middle to knock in
Jordan Williams.
- Miller would put the Shoremen back ahead 9-8 in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out double down the left field line to drive in
Tahir Parker and ignite a six-run frame. The next hitter Everitt hit a sacrifice fly to left to chase home
Reese Hirsh for a two-run lead. Three hitters later, Kinsey tallied a single to left to score Miller and
Scooter SanFilippo for a 12-8 advantage. Stolze capped the barrage with a two-bagger down the left field line to plate Yi and Kinsey for a 14-8 cushion.
- A one-out sacrifice fly by Yi scored Everitt in the last of the eighth to give WC a 10-run bulge, 18-8, and ended the game due to the 10-run rule.
For The Shoremen (7-22, 2-6 CC)
- Hitting: Kinsey (4-for-4, five RBI, run), Turner (4-for-5, two runs), Everitt (2-for-3, four runs, two RBI, two walks), Yi (2-for-4, three RBI, three runs), Stolze (2-for-4, three RBI), Hirsh, Miller and Parker (two runs)

- Washington had 16 hits, drew six walks and had four reach via hit by pitch, while leaving seven on base.
- The Shoremen had three errors in the game, leading to two runs by the Bears.
For Ursinus (10-16, 3-5 CC)
- Hitting: Richter (3-for-4, two runs, two RBI), Cantor (2-for-5, two runs), Williams (2-for-4), Beaver (two RBI)
- Pitching:
Mike Scheller (loss 1-4, 4 1/3 innings, six hits, five runs, five earned, one walks, two strikeouts)
- The Bears notched 12 hits, worked out seven walks and had a hitter reach on a hit by pitch as they left nine on base.
- Ursinus had two errors in the game, leading to four unearned runs for WC.

- Kinsey tallied a career-best five RBI in the win.
Ursinus 7 Washington College 2 (Game 2)
How It Happened
- The Bears got on the board in the top of the second with two runs. The first run came on a sacrifice fly with one out by Ross that was dropped to score Beaver and Ross would score on a two-out single up the middle by
Dylan Crammer.
- In the last of the second, Parker plated Kinsey on a base hit to right with two away to trim the lead to a single run.
- Ursinus got two in the top of the third to lead 4-1. Richter scored on a throwing error with one away to make it a two-run game and Beaver came home on a sacrifice fly to left-center by Ross to give the road team a three-run lead.
- Everitt in the last of the third came home on a sacrifice fly by Stolze to cut the lead to 4-2.
- Crammer scored on a two-out base hit to right by Cantor to give the Bears a three-run lead in the top of the fourth 5-2.
- Two frames later, Beaver capped the scoring with a two-run single up the middle to send in both Cantor and Richter to make it 7-2.
For The Shoremen (7-23, 2-7 CC)

- Pitching:
