Bullets Get Past Shoremen in Centennial Conference Tournament First Round, 13-11

Boone Wins 19 Face-Offs, Picks Up Nine Ground Balls and Scores a Goal

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Gettysburg topped host Washington College 13-11 on Tuesday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium in the first round of the Centennial Conference Tournament.  The fifth seeded Bullets improve to 9-7 overall and advance to Thursday's semifinal at #4 Swarthmore, the tournament's top seed, while the Shoremen had their season come to a close at 6-11.  Washington was competing in its first Centennial Conference Tournament since 2015.

How It Happened
- Gettysburg scored three of the game's first four goals to take a 3-1 lead with 5:49 to go in the first quarter on a Patrick Maroney goal from Quinton Mather.
- Reeve Hargrave would get one back for Washington to cut it to 3-2 with 2:33 to go in the first before Mather scored from Jackson Hearn with 43 seconds left to give the Bullets a 4-2 lead after one.
- The second quarter saw three goals scored in a 12-second span in the opening minute.  Cam Carrigan scored a man-up goal 15 seconds into the quarter to trim it to 4-3.  Michael Voehringer would win the ensuing face-off and scored six seconds later to make it 5-3.  On the next face-off, Owen Boone would win the face-off, dodged a defender and tallied a goal six seconds after Voehringer's score to cut it to 5-4.
- Parker Barta would tie the game at 5-5 with 10:58 left in the second quarter on a pass from Ben Dickinson.
- Stokes Myers would give Gettysburg the lead for the rest of the game with 9:10 to go in the second quarter and it would ignite a 4-1 run for the road side as it took its biggest lead of the game, 9-6, with 2:13 left before halftime with Mather netting the helper.
- Grant Matthews would cut it to two, 9-7, at halftime with 63 seconds to go before the intermission on a Barta assist.
- After Logan Trombley reduced the Bullets' edge to one, 9-8, with 9:37 to go in the third, Gettysburg responded by scoring three of the next four goals to take a 12-9 advantage into the fourth as Mather put one in with 1:33 remaining.
- In the final quarter, the Shoremen scored twice in a span of 44 seconds to narrow the Bullets' lead to a single goal, 12-11, with 13:05 left on a Nicky Bond goal.
- Gettysburg's Ryan Cernuto would score the last goal of the game with 7:42 to go give the visitors a 13-11 lead and that would be the final score.

For The Shoremen (6-11)
- Scoring: Carrigan (two goals and one assist), Matthews (goal and two assists), Cory Morgan (two goals), Barta and Dickinson (goal and assist)
- In Goal: Will Charvala (60:00, 13 goals allowed, 11 saves)
- Owen Boone (19-for-25 on face-offs and game-best and personal-high nine ground balls), Tom Merritt and Jack Winters (two caused turnovers)
- The Shoremen went 20-for-27 at the X, went 16-for-19 in clears in the contest and 1-for-2 in man-up situations.
- Washington, which had a 40-31 advantage in ground balls, had 23 turnovers, while causing five Gettysburg turnovers.

For Gettysburg (9-7)
- Scoring: Mather (three goals and three assists for six points, all game-high), Jack Dunleavy (two goals and assist), Henry Grosso and Charlie Johnson (two goals)
- In Goal: Chase Morgan (60:00, 11 goals allowed, 10 saves)  
- Voehringer and Frank Barbera (four ground balls), Barbera, Brian Delduchetto and Andy Marquet (three caused turnovers)
- The Bullets were 18-for-22 in clears, 0-for-0 in man-up situations and turned it over 14 times, while notching 13 caused turnovers.
- Gettysburg held a 45-35 advantage in shots.

Notes
- Washington was participating in its 14th conference tournament this afternoon as the tournament started in 2001.  Only Gettysburg (22) and Dickinson (16) have participated in more.
- The two teams were meeting for the 12th time in the conference tournament, the most played matchup in the Centennial Tournament.
