Juniors, field hockey player MaryCate Anson (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) and volleyball player Allison McKechnie (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Jserra Catholic) share this week's Shorewoman of the Week honor. Anson and McKechnie both helped their team go undefeated this past week.

Anson tallied three goals in a 2-0 week for the Shorewomen.  In the team's 4-2 win at Stockton on Wednesday night, the junior tallied two goals, the first to give WC a 3-0 lead midway through the second quarter and then after Stockton cut the lead to 3-2, Anson gave the Shorewomen an insurance goal with 3:05 to go in the game to cap the scoring.  On Saturday in a 3-2 victory over visiting St. Mary's (Md.), Anson put the Shorewomen ahead 3-1 with just under four minutes to go in the second quarter.

McKechnie hit .367, averaging 6.89 assists per set, 3.00 kills per set and 0.67 aces per set to go along with a pair of double-doubles in a 3-0 week for the Shorewomen.  On Tuesday in a three-set win over visiting Alvernia, McKechnie led all players with 12 kills which tied her personal-best, 21 assists and four aces for her first double-double of the week, while hitting .476.  On Saturday in the second match of the day, the junior tallied 10 kills and 18 assists in a 3-0 triumph over visiting Eastern Mennonite on her way to hitting .450 in the contest.  Earlier in the day in a three-set victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden, McKechnie led all players with 23 assists.

This is Anson's first career Shorewoman of the Week honor in field hockey and second overall as she earned the honor in women's lacrosse on April 22, 2024.  McKechnie's garners the Shorewoman of the Week honor for the first time.
