Shorewomen Start Fast and Close Strong to Leave Knights in the Dark, 4-1

McMahon Scores Twice for First Career Two-Goal Game and Watkinson Hands Out Two Assists for First Two Assist Performance of Career

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Visiting Washington College scored two goals in the first quarter and put the game away with two in the fourth quarter to down host Arcadia 4-1 on Wednesday night in a non-conference field hockey game at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion.  The Shorewomen are now 5-3 on the season, while the Knights fall to 3-5.

How It Happened
- Samantha McMahon put Washington ahead for the rest of the game just 71 seconds into the first quarter on an unassisted tally.
- McMahon made it 2-0 with 7:11 left in the opening stanza as she finished off a feed from Natalie Watkinson.
- The Knights got their lone goal just under two minutes later to cut the lead to 2-1 with 5:13 to go in the first.
- Arcadia nearly tied it up with 3:49 remaining in the third quarter, but Jam Hutt-Robles was there for the defensive save to preserve the lead.
- The score remained 2-1 until 5:33 to go in the fourth quarter when Kat Esposito converted a penalty stroke to make it 3-1 following a violation in the circle by Arcadia.
- Emma Campbell concluded the scoring with 2:35 to go in the contest with Watkinson chalking up her second helper of the evening.

- Scoring: McMahon (two goals), Esposito (goal), Watkinson (two assists)
- Goalkeeper: Charlotte Schurman (1 save, 1 goal allowed, 60:00)
- Hutt-Robles (defensive save)
- Washington had 22 shots and nine penalty corners in the contest.
- McMahon had her first career two-goal effort and Watkinson had her first career two-assist performance.
- It was the first meeting between the two schools in field hockey and WC's last non-conference game of the season.
