Shoremen Earn 2-1 Win Over Ursinus

Chestertown, MD- The Washington College Men's Soccer team holds off the Bears of Ursinus 2-1 to move into third place in the Centennial Conference regular season standings.

Washington College 2 Ursinus 1

How It Happened

  • The first offensive strike the Shoremen saw came almost 10 minutes into the first half. Simone Perin took a shot off a handoff pass from Tyler Davidson at the top of the box. The shot was blocked by an Ursinus defenseman.
  • Tucker Sprano had the first on target shot for the Shoremen five minutes later. From just outside the 18, he struck a shot right under the top crossbar. Unfortunately for the Shoremen, the Ursinus goalie was able to jump up and catch the ball out of midair to save a goal.
  • Grant Sopa had a sneaky shot from the right side of the goal that almost snuck into the top left corner of the net, but the goalkeeper was able to stop the threat yet again.
  • With seven minutes left in the first half, Sprano was tripped inside the box to earn a penalty kick for the Shoremen. Davidson was the one that took it and snuck the ball past the Ursinus goalie's right side. The Shoremen led, 1-0.
  • Five minutes into the second half, Yasir German was able to breakaway past the Bears' defenders and cross a ball to Sprano on the left side of the goal. Sprano one touched the ball that bounced off the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
  • The Bears scored with six minutes left in the game. The Bears had one more shot in the game to try and tie, but Hannes Budde in goal for the Shoremen recorded the save. The Shoremen ended the game on top, 2-1.
