Shoremen Sweep In Wild Goose Classic, Taking Out Immaculata 85-73

Chestertown, MD– The Washington College Men's Basketball Team hosted Immaculata in game two of the Wild Goose Classic Tip-Off Tournament.

How It Happened 

  • Immaculata had the first lead of the game, 4-2, two minutes into the half. The Shoremen went on a 14-8 run to take the lead for themselves. Ben Costello tallied four points with David Carr Jr. adding in a three during the early run. The Shoremen led, 16-12.  
  • Each team was in the bonus early on forcing one-and-one free throws on each foul early in the first half.  
  • The Shoremen kept a consistent lead, never letting Immaculata closer than four points, 39-35, with 2:45 left to play in the half. Ty Woodland and Nolan Waldon answered with back-to-back fast break layups to extend the Shoremen lead to 43-35.  
  • Immaculata ended the half with two jumpers and a layup by Jaedon Harris sandwiched in between. The Shoremen headed into halftime leading, 45-39.  
  • Immaculata crept within five points to begin the second half. Max Portnoy and Jon Nalty brought the answer for the Shoremen extending their lead to eight, 51-43.  
  • A layup for Immaculata with 3:25 remaining in the half put the team within five of the Shoremen yet again, 75-67. Portnoy had an immediate answer with a layup putting the Shoremen ahead 74-67.  
  • Two free throws by Davis Bland with .42 seconds left in the game secured the win for the Shoremen as Immaculata played the foul game in the remaining seconds to send the Shoremen to the line twice more. The Shoremen grabbed their second win of the season, 85-73.

The Shoremen are back in action on November 14th as they head to Annapolis to take on Navy in an exhibition match at 6 PM.
