Shoremen Take Down USMMA In Florida, 14-9

Will Turner hit for a cycle and batted six runs in

Fort Pierce, FL- The Washington College Baseball Team kept a steady lead over USMMA to take their Spring Break Game in Florida. The Shoremen were led by Will Turner who hit for a cycle and recorded six RBI.

How It Happened 

  • The Shoremen scored first in the bottom of the third. Ty Everitt singled up the middle and Will Turner sent him home as the next batter up with a double to left field. Turner stole third and Drew Kinsey was walked putting two runners on base for the next batter, Chase Ruppel. He singled to right field scoring Turner and advancing Kinsey to third. A wild pitch allowed the third run for the Shoremen to score and they were up 3-0. Zach Stolze sacrifice flied allowing Ruppel to score and the Shoremen ended the inning up, 4-0. 
  • In the bottom of the next inning, the Shoremen scored four more runs. A walk and a single put both Matt Lewis and Everitt on base. Turner singled to the shortstop earning two RBI as the Shoremen went up 6-0. Stolze and Reese Hirsh singled and each earned an RBI in back-to-back at bats as the Shoremen went up, 8-0.  
  • The Shoremen gave up six runs in the top of the fifth off of two errors, the score was 8-6 heading into the bottom of the fifth.  
  • Turner homered to left field sending him and Lewis home after Lewis singled as the first batter up in the inning. The Shoremen were up 10-6.  
  • Turner and Ruppel batted in the last two earned runs for the Shoremen in the bottom of the seventh. The Shoremen recorded two unearned runs off of USMMA errors and they took the game, 14-9.
