Shorewomen Secure Spot in CC Tournament in 6-1 Triumph Against Bears

Browne Clinches Victory For Washington Which Will Compete in 15th CC Tournament

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College clinched a spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament with a 6-1 win over visiting Ursinus on Thursday afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center in Centennial Conference women's tennis action.  The Shorewomen, who netted their 15th trip to the conference tournament in team history, will be either the three or four seed in the championship which will start next Wednesday.

Doubles
- The Shorewomen swept doubles from the Bears to gain the point. Third doubles finished first with the tandem of Isabella Sorhegui and Gaby Coutts coasting to a 6-2 win. Second doubles was the next to conclude and it was Washington's Sofia Sperandei and Jayda Browne taking a 6-3 triumph to clinch the point for the home team. The top flight was a 6-4 result for Eva Kading and Soleil Namunyola for WC.

Singles
- Sperandei won the first singles match to finish at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
- Kading put Washington ahead 3-0 in a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the second spot.
- Browne gave the Shorewomen the victory at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-3 result.
- Sorhegui took home a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 that made it 5-0 for the Shorewomen.
- Ursinus chalked up its lone victory of the afternoon at the top spot in a 6-3, 6-4 score against Namunyola.
- No. 6 was the final match to be played out and it was Coutts taking a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) decision.

Notes
- The Shorewomen are 8-7 on the season, while the Bears are 11-9.  WC is 5-2 in the conference, while Ursinus is 2-5 in the Centennial.
- Ursinus' Morgan Coupe is the sister of Mackenzie Coupe, a member of the Shorewomen Soccer team.  Morgan Coupe played second doubles and sixth singles for the Bears.
- Washington will be competing in its 15th Centennial Conference Tournament which has been in existence since 2006.  It is the team's fourth straight trip to the conference tournament.

- A win by the Shorewomen and a loss by Franklin & Marshall to Ursinus will clinch the three seed for WC and a Friday, May 2, trip to second seeded Haverford. An F&M win over Ursinus will put the Shorewomen as the four seed and a home first round match on Wednesday, April 30, versus fifth seeded Dickinson.
