Newark, DE- The Washington College Trap & Skeet team kicked off the 2025-26 season at Wilmington Trapshooting Association for the Pre Labor Day shoot. This is a non collegiate Amateur Trapshooting Association event open to all active ATA members. Events such as these provide WCTS athletes with the opportunity to interface with others in clay target sport and allow for friendly competition to hone skills in a competitive atmosphere.
WCTS athletes shot a variety of the program which included the opportunity to compete in 100 trap singles, 100 handicap trap, and 100 trap doubles. Each athlete participated in events that aligned with their current training and experience.
How it Happened
The first event of the day was singles trap where athletes shoot 100 targets broken into four rounds of 25. The team broke into two squads of four for the event and got to work shortly after arriving at the club. With a medium variable wind, the targets were dancing as the first squad took the line and after the dust settled MJ Rosenstiel '28 and Jeffrey Paes '29 both smashed 92/100 targets. This left them tied for a 10th place ranking. Trice Moore '28 finished one place and one target behind them with a 91/100 running his last 25 straight. A team score would have been calculated at 446/500.
The second event of the day was 100 handicap targets. While WCTS does not compete in this event though the governing body of ACUI it is an opportunity for athletes to hone their skills for post collegiate ATA competition. Four WCTS athletes entered this event and were led by Paes who again broke a solid 92/100 followed again closely by Moore who broke a solid 89/100.
The third event of the day was 50 pairs of doubles where fivr returning WCTS athletes entered a full squad into the event. By the afternoon the targets were flying smoothly but the wind remained variable forcing the Shoremen to bring extra focus to the field. At the end of the round Rosenstiel was high gun for the Shoremen breaking 85/100 targets followed closely by Junior Max McNulty who broke 82/100. The final squad score was 394/500.
Washington College Trap and Skeet would like to thank Wilmington Trapshooting Association for their hospitality as they are always welcoming to the team during their registered events. We would also like to thank Millers Gun Center for facilitating acquiring ammunition for this event.
