Third Seeded Bears Fend Off Sixth Seeded Shorewomen in CC Tournament First Round, 53-47

Meredith Scores 12 Points for Washington

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Host three seed Ursinus used a 9-0 first quarter run to take the lead for the rest of the game to hold off visiting six seed Washington College, 53-47, on Tuesday night at Helfferich Hall in the first round of the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. The Bears are now 16-10 on the season, while the Shorewomen finish their campaign at 13-13.

How It Happened
- The Bears opened up an 11-2 lead with 4:42 to go in the first quarter on a three-pointer. Ursinus lead 11-4 after one.
- Washington opened the second with the first five points to trim the Ursinus lead to 11-9 just 75 seconds into the stanza on a Abby Meredith bucket.
- Ursinus would outscore the Shorewomen 16-7 the rest of the second to take a 27-16 advantage into halftime.
- Trailing 31-18 in the third, the Shorewomen scored eight consecutive points to trim the Bears' lead to 31-26 with 4:19 on a floating jumper by Meredith. The home side took a 40-32 lead into the fourth.
- In the fourth, Ursinus lead 48-39 with 2:40 to go before Washington netted nine of the next 12 points to trim the hosts' edge to 51-47 with 18 seconds left on a Kaitlyn Boggs layup.
- That's as close as Washington would get as Ursinus canned two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to round out the scoring.

For The Shorewomen (13-13)
- Meredith (12 points and two steals), Ellie Carter-Soriano (10 points and two steals), Emma Robinson (game-bests of 14 rebounds and six rebounds)
- WC shot 43% from the floor (20-for-47), 25% from three-point range (3-for-12) and 31% (4-for-13) from the foul line in the game.
- The Shorewomen turned it over 18 times, tallied six steals and pulled down 35 rebounds.
- WC outscored Ursinus in points in the paint, 26-18, bench points, 16-9, and second chance points, 11-3.

Notes
- Tonight marked the final game for Boggs, Meredith and Robinson. All three made the Centennial Tournament in every season they played for the Shorewomen.
- In the other first round game, fifth seed McDaniel topped fourth seed Dickinson, 51-38. Ursinus will visit second seed Gettysburg and McDaniel will play at top seed #3 Johns Hopkins on Friday night.
