Trap & Skeet Finishes Fourth at Lower East Coast Championships

Savannah, GA- The Washington College Trap and Skeet Team (WCTS) competed in the ACUI/SCTP Lower East Coast Conference Championships February 7-8, 2026 to open their spring tournament season. There were approximately 315 athletes representing 25 colleges and universities in attendance. Teams, ranging in size from 56 athletes down to four, competed in up to six events for honors and either a High Overall (HOA) ranking scored out of 2,250 targets or a Classic All Around (CAA) scored out of 1,500 targets.

Seven WCTS athletes competed in the CAA 300 target event; sub-events consisted of 100 American Skeet, 100 Singles Trap, and 100 Sporting Clays targets. Each athlete was scored individually in sub-event and CAA. Team scores were made up of the top 5 scores in each sub-event and then complied into the team CAA score. ACUI/SCTP rank tied scores outside of podium finishes using reverse long run method.

Saturday morning in Savannah was unseasonably cool and windy with WCTS beginning the tournament on the American Skeet fields at 10:30am. MJ Rosenstiel '28 led the Shoremen with a 97/100 and finished 33rd out of 247 in the men's category. Colin Krug '26 (88/100) and Trice Moore '28 (86/100) both worked through adverse field conditions and finished 126th and 147th respectively. Rounding out the top five for WCTS was Shorewoman Gracie Heintzelman '28 (84/100) who finished 44th out of 66 women and Max McNulty Van Oordt '27 (83/100) 170th.
WCTS overall team score was 438/500 finishing 15th.

Immediately after finishing their skeet rotation, WCTS athletes reported to their assigned Sporting Clays stations and began their next hundred targets for the day. Rosenstiel again was at the top of the WCTS scores with an 83/100 finishing 46th out of 246 men. Chris Johnson '26 (74/100) and Moore (73/100) both had solid performances and quickly adapted to a new course layout. Heintzelman and Krug both followed closely behind and each contributing 69/100 to the cause. WCTS 368/500 was enough to finish 14th in the field of 25 colleges.

Sunday morning saw the temperature drop another 10 degrees and the wind increase, leading to very challenging conditions for all teams. WCTS took the American Singles Trap line at 10am to round out the CAA events. Heintzelman led WCTS with a 90/100 and finishing 13th out of 66 women. Rosenstiel's 87/100 added to the cause with Johnson and Moore each contributing 82/100. The fifth score of 81/100 was added by Jeffrey Paes '29. WCTS finished 17th with a final team score of 422/500.

Athletes are scored out of the 300 targets and ranked for individual CAA awards. There were 100 in the men's CAA category. Final placements for the Shoremen were, Rosenstiel 3rd  (267), Moore 28th (241), Johnson 35th (236), Krug 47th (226), Paes 53rd (222) and McNulty 66th (211). There were 23 in the women's CAA Category where Shorewoman Heintzelman finished 5th (243) only five targets off of 3rd place.

There were 12 colleges who qualified for the CAA team awards. WCTS finished with 1228/1500 landing them a 4th place only five targets away from the podium. Auburn took 1st with 1283, Southern Arkansas University finished 2nd with 1243, and University of Olivet was 3rd breaking 1233.
