Chestertown, Md. - The Washington College women's rowing team will commence its spring season on the Corsica River in nearby Centreville, Maryland at the Washington College Invitational at 9:00 a.m. on March 21.
Last Season:
The Shorewomen finished fourth out of nine teams at last season's Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships. In the fall, the Shorewomen raced at the Occoquan Challenge and had a dual regatta with Franklin & Marshall, winning three of the four races.
Returning for the Shorewomen:
Senior Maura Collins and sophomore Meredith Bedell both earned All-MARC recognition last spring with Collins named to the second team and Bedell was all-novice. Joining Bedell and Collins is junior coxswain Kelsey Sanderell as the three were part of the MARC Crew of the Week last April. Collins, senior Kyaran Balin-Brooks and senior Heather Lamont are the three members of the 2023 team that won the MARC Championship and raced in the NCAA Championships.
From Head Coach Kari Hughes:
"As we head into the spring racing season, our senior class is setting the tone both in the boats and beyond — their leadership has been a driving force in shaping who this team is. Our recruited athletes have already been making strong contributions to the team while our varsity returners have been invaluable in bringing our novice athletes along, athletically and culturally. From day one of spring practice, the team has brought infectious energy and a deep commitment to the hard work that makes this sport special. We're excited to see what this team accomplishes with a competitive conference schedule this spring"
Key Games:
After the Washington College Invitational, the Shorewomen will travel to New Jersey to compete in the Stockton Sprints on March 28. The team will also compete at the Knecht Cup in Pennsauken, New Jersey on April 11 and host Bryn Mawr on April 25 before going back to Pennsauken to compete at the MARC Championships on May 2.
