Chestertown, MD- Washington College Softball splits with Hood in non-conference doubleheader at home. The Shorewomen took the lead early in game two and the defense protected their runs to take the win. Freshman, Emma Trainer ended the day with four hits and three RBI and senior Gracelyn Goforth tallied five hits total.

How It Happened
- Gracelyn Goforth singled to left center field with one out in the bottom of the first inning. She was left on base as the Blazers recorded the last two outs of the inning.
- A grand slam in the top of the fifth inning put Hood ahead, 4-0.
- Lindsay Worley singled to right field with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to try and combat the deficit. She would be caught stealing a few pitches later and the Shorewomen left the inning still down, 4-0.
- Julia Weglarz led off the bottom of the sixth with a bunt single to the third baseman. Lilly Wenzel took first base as she was hit by a pitch and the Shorewomen had two on. With two outs, Trainer singled up the middle to send Weglarz home and the Shorewomen were on the board, 5-1.
- That would be the only run the Shorewomen could get across as they fell, 5-1.

How It Happened
- Gracelyn Goforth singled to center field with one out to start the bottom of the first inning. Lilly Wenzel followed with a single as she was able to beat the ball on the throw to first. Emma Trainer was hit by a pitch to load the bases with only one out for the Shorewomen. Cece Johnston hit into an error by the short stop sending the first run home for the Shorewomen.
- Goforth and Wenzel began the bottom of the third inning each with a hit again. Trainer doubled down the right field line to send Goforth home and put two in scoring position with zero outs. Jenna Harper singled up the middle to send another run across the plate and have runners no the corners. A wild pitch sent Trainer home and moved Harper over to third. The Shorewomen led 4-0.
- Cece Johnston doubled over the head of the right fielder's head but got thrown out on the way to third. She sent a run home and the Shorewomen extended their lead to five.
- Julia Weglarz singled up the right side to lead off in the bottom of the fourth inning. She was replaced by Worley who came in to pinch run. Goforth doubled to right field moving both runners to scoring position. Wenzel grounded out but captured an RBI as Worley advanced home. Trainer singled to right field once again and sent a second runner across the plate for the Shorewomen.
- Hood scored two runs in the top of the fifth and the sixth inning to put themselves on the board, 7-4. The Shorewomen headed into the top of the seventh still holding the three run lead, 7-4.
- The Shorewomen defense recorded a double play to earn the first two outs of the inning. Before the final run was batted in by the Blazers as they moved the score to 7-5. The final out was collected by the defense and the Shorewomen took the game, 7-5.
