Shoremen Take Series With Diplomats With 6-5 Victory

Lancaster, PA- Washington College Baseball took an early lead over the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall and never faltered as they took a 6-5 win over the Diplomats to sweep the series. The Shoremen now sit at 19-15 and 7-5 in conference play.

How It Happened 

  • The Shoremen took the lead in the top of the third inning. Drew Kinsey was hit by a pitch to lead off. Brett Connolly followed with a single to center and Chase Ruppel singled to right to load the bases. Reese Hirsh singled up the middle to send both Kinsey and Connolly home. Brady Wozniak hit a sacrifice fly to center field to send Ruppel home and the Shoremen were up, 3-0.  
  • The fourth Shoremen run crossed the plate in the top of the fourth. Kinsey sent Ty Powell home with a sacrifice fly as Powell singled up the middle to begin the frame for the Shoremen. It was 4-0 headed into the bottom of the fourth.  
  • F&M tied the score in the bottom of the fifth inning, 4-4.  
  • To begin the top of the seventh, Connolly hit a home run to right field, putting the Shoremen back on top, 5-4. Powell was up to bat later in the same inning with bases loaded. He singled to shallow left field allowing Alex Dardaris to score after he was walked. The Shoremen left the inning on top, 6-4 
  • The Diplomats brought the answer in the bottom of the seventh as they scored an unearned run to bring the deficit to one, 6-5. 
  • The Shoremen recorded three straight outs in the bottom of the eighth and three outs on four batters in the bottom of the ninth to protect their lead and take the win, 6-5.

The Shoremen will host Haverford on April 18th for Senior Day in Chestertown at 12 and 3 PM.
