Chestertown, MD- Washington College Softball falls to conference leader Swarthmore in two games. The Shorewomen were tied with Swarthmore until they scored the leading run in the top of the fourth inning.
Game 1: Washington College 0 Swarthmore 4
How It Happened
- Swarthmore scored first in the top of the second inning.
- Emma Trainer had the first hit in the bottom of the second as she singled up the middle. A sacrifice bunt by Jenna Harper moved her to second. Swarthmore was able to record two more outs as the Shorewomen left one base.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Becca Foulk hit a double just shy of the left center field fence. She sat on second with two outs. Lindsay Worley put runners on the corners with a single to shallow left field. A fly ball to left ended the inning for the Shorewomen as they left the inning still down, 1-0.
- Swarthmore scored three more in the top of the sixth to go up 4-0 over the Shorewomen.
- Julia Weglarz doubled to right field to try and get momentum flowing for the Shorewomen in the bottom of the sixth, but Swarthmore recorded three straight outs to end the inning.
- With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Cece Johnston hit a single to shallow center to earn herself first base. Foulk singled over the shortstop's head to put two on base and Worley followed with a successful bunt to load the bases. The Shorewomen could not capitalize as they left the game down, 4-0.

Game 2: Washington College 9 Swarthmore 4
How It Happened
- Swarthmore took a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- Gracelyn Goforth singled to left field with one out to start the offense. Goforth was retired on a fielder's choice by Lilly Wenzel. Wenzel was moved to third with a double by Emma Trainer and the Shorewomen had two in scoring position. Jenna Harper singled to center field to send Wenzel home. Harper advanced to second on the throw. The Shorewomen left the first down three, 4-1.
- In the bottom of the second, Lindsay Worley earned first on an error by the pitcher. The Shorewomen had two runners on with one out as Grace Allen earned base on a fielder's choice where Worley outran the throw and was safe at second. Julia Weglarz moved both runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt and the Shorewomen had two on with two outs.
- Goforth walked to load the bases for Lilly Wenzel. Wenzel doubled to deep center field to clear the bases and tie the score 4-4. A strikeout earned the last out of the inning for Swarthmore as they headed into the third.
- Neither team scored in the third, Swarthmore scored one run in the top of the fourth and four in the top of the sixth to regain the lead 9-4 over the Shorewomen.
- In the top of the seventh, Goforth led off with a single up the left side of the field. Wenzel earned first on a fielder's choice that got Goforth out. Trainer singled to left center to move Wenzel up and put two on for the Shorewomen. A fly out and strikeout were the final two outs for the Shorewomen and they dropped the game, 9-4.
