Shorewomen Fall To Franklin & Marshall On The Road

Lancaster, PA- Washington College Softball falls in both against Franklin & Marshall in their last double-header on the road. 

Game 1: Washington College 2 Franklin & Marshall 5 

How It Happened 

  • Gracelyn Goforth singled through the left side as the second batter for the Shorewomen in the top of the first inning. She advanced to second on a passed ball but was left on base as a strikeout recorded the third out of the half inning.  
  • The Diplomats scored one in the bottom of the first.  
  • Becca Foulk singled to right center field with one out in the top of the second inning. She was out at second as Cece Johnston hit into a fielder's choice. A pop fly left yet another Shorewomen on base at the end of the half inning.  
  • Franklin & Marshall led 5-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning. Goforth led off with a double down the left field line. Emma Trainer sent her home with a single up the middle. Jenna Harper sent Trainer home with a single through the right side of the field and the Shorewomen were on the board, 5-2.  
  • Those would be the only runs for the Shorewomen as the Diplomats recorded three straight outs in the top of the seventh to take game one, 5-2.  

For the Shorewomen (10-27, 4-11 CC)  
Batting: Gracelyn Goforth (2 hits, 1 double), Emma Trainer and Jenna Harper (1 hit, 1 RBI) 
Pitching: Anna Hutchison (6.0 innings pitched, 1 strikeout) 

Game 2: Washington College 5 Franklin & Marshall 7 

How It Happened 

  • With one out in the top of the second, Becca Foulk singled to left field to put herself on first. Cece Johnston hit into her second fielder's choice of the day placing her on first. A ground out recorded the third out of the inning, but the Shorewomen walked away with the first hit of the game.  
  • Jenna Harper singled to right center field with one out to try and get the fourth inning going for the Shorewomen. Foulk followed, earning first base on an error by the first baseman as she laid down a sacrifice bunt. Johnston singled up the middle advancing both runners and loading the bases. Two outs were recorded before the Shorewomen could score and they left the half inning still scoreless, 0-0.  
  • The Diplomats scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  
  • Goforth singled to the right side in the top of the fifth inning. Lilly Wenzel followed with a single down the left field line. The Shorewomen had two runners on with one out. Jenna Harper singled to shallow right field to send the first run across for the Shorewomen. Wenzel was able to score on a wild pitch and the Shorewomen were down 7-2.  
  • In the top of the sixth, Anna Hutchison tripled to left field with one out as a pinch hitter. Lindsay Worley came back in to run and was batted in by Grace Allen who sacrifice bunted and took first base on an error. Allen stole second and was sent home by Julia Weglarz who singled to left field. The Shorewomen left the inning down three, 7-4.  
  • Emma Trainer led off in the top of the seventh inning with a single to left field. Harper followed with a single down the left field line. A single just past the second baseman sent one runner home and put the Shorewomen down two. A strikeout ended the inning and the game with F&M taking it, 7-5.

Pitching: Emmie Meeks (6.0 innings pitched, 3 strikeouts)
