Shorewomen Lacrosse Best Bears, 17-13

Shorewomen scored six unanswered goals in the fourth period to gain the lead for good

Collegeville, PA– The Washington College women's lacrosse team traveled to Ursinus and put the Bears away in the final period scoring six straight unanswered to reclaim the lead. Mia Salvatierra tied the program record for assists in a game with seven as she ended the day with nine total points.

How it Happened 

  • The Shorewomen were up 5-2 over Ursinus with 6:12 left to play in the first period. Anna Wilson led the scoring with two goals and Mia Salvatierra assisted four out of five.  
  • Ursinus scored the last three goals of the period, two man-up goals, to head into the second tied, 5-5.  
  • The Shorewomen regained the lead after Salvatierra's free position shot was left wide left. The Ursinus goalie had the ball as Piper Evans was able to cause a turnover and pick up a ground ball right in front of the goal. She pump faked and scored to put the Shorewomen on top, 6-5. Lis Braswell scored three minutes later just a food inside the eight meter and Malery Andrews earned her second and third goal of the game soon after as the Shorewomen extended their lead to 9-5 with 6:10 remaining in the half.  
  • Ursinus scored the last goal of the half, cutting the Shorewomen lead to 10-8 heading into the locker room.  
  • The Bears came out of halftime scoring the first three goals of the second half to take the lead, 11-10. 
  • With 2:53 left in the third period, Lis Braswell beat her defender 1v1 and scored to equal the score, 11-11. At the beginning of the fourth, the score was tied once again. Salvatierra intercepted the ball in the Bears' end of the field. She took a diving shot that got past the Bears' goalie and put the Shorewomen ahead again, 13-12 with 11:52 left to play.  
  • Salvatierra earned her seventh assist of the game, tying the program record for assists in a game, as she found a cutting Anna Wilson who scored in front of the goal, extending the lead to two with 7:53 remaining.  
  • Wilson scored once again a minute later as she was left alone in front of the goal. Piper Evans found her and the Shorewomen moved the score to 15-12. The Shorewomen scored two more unanswered to take the lead 17-12.  
  • Ursinus scored the last goal of the game, but the Shorewomen took the 17-13 win.
