Shorewomen Volleyball Successful in Home Debut in Four-Set Win over Lions

Diehl Tallies Career-Best 21 Kills as Team Hits .266 in Win

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College volleyball team had a successful home debut with a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 25-16) win over visiting Albright on Thursday night at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium in a non-conference volleyball match. The Shorewomen are now 2-0 on the year, while the Lions are 0-2.

How It Happened 
- The first set starts off in a back-and-forth battle going point-for-point, but the Shorewomen took off with a 12-5 run to take a 20-13 lead on a hitting error by Albright. Gianna Folke capped the set with a kill.
- Trailing 16-15 in the second set, the Lions used a 4-0 run to take the lead for the remainder of the set at 19-16. Washington got it to 21-20, but Albright rolled out four of the last six points to win by three.
- Washington came out strong in the third set by racing out to a 10-2 lead on a Izzy Diehl finisher. A hitting error by the Lions clinched the set for the home side.
- In the fourth set, the Shorewomen totaled 15 kills and five aces, three from Emily Hartnett, to win by nine. The hosts put the set away with a 10-1 run to lead 21-11 on a kill by Emma Shaner. Diehl closed out the match with her personal-best 21st kill as she had eight in the last set.

- Diehl (career-best 21 kills), Lyndsey Wessel (12 kills and six blocks), Folke (12 kills), Alexis Stubbs (29 assists and four aces), Kaysie Lynch (27 assists), Lucy Jones (20 digs), Grace Salveron (10 digs)
- Team hit .266 with 11 aces and seven blocks in the win.

The Shorewomen will travel to Hazleton, Pennsylvania on Sunday, September 6, to play Kent State at Tuscarawas at 1:00 p.m. and host Penn State Hazleton at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference tri-match.
