Chestertown, MD - The Washington College Shorewomen defeated The Batten University Marlins 3-2 in a double overtime battle on Saturday afternoon in the team's home opener.

How it Happened:

• The Shorewomen came out strong offensively, Sophia Warner put Washington College on the scoreboard first, 10:40 into the first quarter off an assist from Tara Radebaugh.
• Washington College continued to create offensive opportunities in the opening quarter; Tyler Rice recorded 2 shots kept out by the Batten defense, and Natalie Watkinson recorded a shot for the Shorewomen as well.
• Batten responded with 2 goals in the second quarter taking a 2-1 lead, but goalkeeper Charlotte Schurman had multiple back to back stops on Batten's offensive efforts.
• The Shorewomen came out of halftime applying pressure, earning multiple early penalty corners and creating scoring opportunities for Reece Forrey, Radebaugh, Rice, Watkinson and Erin Houlihan.
• The Shorewomen's pressure paid off in the fourth quarter when Watkinson found the back of Batten's cage at 51:17 with Jamie Baldwin providing the assist to tie the game 2-2. The equalizer sent the goal into its first 10 minute overtime. 
• Schurman made a crucial save at 71:17 on a shot from Batten and kept the score at 2-2. The game was headed into the second overtime. After earning more penalty corners at 70:44 and 70:32, freshman Warner scored her second goal of the afternoon at 72:26 with Rice's assist, providing the Shorewomen with the secured thrilling 2-3 overtime victory over the Batten Marlins.
