The 1994 Washington College men's tennis team achieved a historic milestone by capturing the NCAA Division III National Championship—marking the program's first national title. Under the leadership of head coach Tim Gray, the Shoremen compiled an impressive 19–2 record and clinched the Centennial Conference championship.
In the national championship match, third seeded Washington College edged out Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a narrow 5–4 victory, showcasing the team's resilience and competitive spirit. The team score was tied 4-4 as Washington College's first doubles team of Damian Polla and Robin Sander lost their first set 6-3. They then recovered to win the second set and the tiebreaker, 6-4, that won them the National Championship.
Polla went on to earn All-American Honors and Sander was named that year's Centennial Conference Player of the Year.
The 1994 championship laid the foundation for continued success, as the Shoremen went on to secure another NCAA Division III National Championship in 1997.

The 1997 Washington College men's tennis team achieved a remarkable feat by capturing their second NCAA Division III National Championship. Under the leadership of head coach Matt Rose, the Shoremen concluded the season with an impressive 20–1 record, securing the Centennial Conference title and culminating in a 4–2 victory over Kalamazoo College in the national championship match held in Lexington, Virginia. Washington College had lost the doubles point to Kalamazoo and came back and captured four points in singles matches at the one, three, five, and six.
Polla, a senior, not only contributed significantly to the team's success but also clinched the NCAA Division III Singles Championship as the four seed that year. This victory marked his second individual national title, having previously won in 1995.
The 1997 championship solidified Washington College's position as a powerhouse in Division III men's tennis during the 1990s.
