Corey Begly

Corey Begly was hired as the head coach of Shoremen Basketball in the summer of 2023 after a four-year stint as the lead assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Connecticut College. He is the 15th coach in the history of the program which dates back to the 1912-13 season.

In his first season with Washington College in 2023-24, Begly exceeded the win total of the prior season and coached his first All-Centennial Conference player.

The 2024-25 season saw the team double its win total and swept Haverford for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

In 2022-23, the Camels achieved their best NESCAC record since 2001-02, which paved way for the program's first NESCAC quarterfinal appearance since 2011 under head coach Tim Sweeney. The Camels also notched a victory over a top ten opponent (Middlebury) for the first time in 20 years. Begly's efforts on the defensive side of the ball led the team to the second-best defensive ranking in the conference and a top-30 ranking in the nation. Begly also spearheaded the recruiting efforts for the Camels, bringing in talent from throughout New England and players from Tennessee, New Zealand and the United Kingdom to the program.

Begly arrived at Connecticut College from St. Lawrence University, where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach after lettering with the program from 20018-12. As an assistant for the Saints, he served as the program's recruiting coordinator and recruited two Liberty League rookies of the year in both 2018-19 and 2019-20. His six-member recruiting class of 2022 also helped the team post an 11-win improvement in the 2018-19 season. St. Lawrence advanced to the semifinal round of the 2019 Liberty League Tournament. Begly, along with his colleagues, were collectively recognized as the 2019 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.

Prior to rejoining his alma-mater, coach Begly served as the head coach of the boys' varsity basketball team at Hyde School in Bath, Maine for four years. He accumulated a 58-20 record and piloted the program's transition from the smallest public school league in Maine to the NEPSCAC (New England Preparatory Athletic Council) Prep League. Begly earned 2016-17 NEPSCAC Class C Co-Coach of the Year after finishing the season with a 20-7 record, winning the league title, and advancing to the final four in his final year at the school.

Begly lettered with the St. Lawrence basketball program from 2008 to 2012 and was a member of the 2008-09 Saints team that advanced to the "Sweet 16" round of the NCAA Tournament. He earned his bachelor's degree in history in 2012 as well as his master's in educational leadership in 2019 from St. Lawrence.
