JB Clarke was hired as the head coach of the Shoremen lacrosseteam in July of 1998. He has compiled a 134-53 record at Washingtonthrough 11 seasons and has led the Shoremen into the NCAA DivisionIII Tournament seven times. He reached 100 wins at WC in fewergames than any previous Shoremen head coach.
In 2003, Clarke led the Shoremen to an unbeaten CentennialConference record and their first conference championship since1997. In 2004, Clarke again led the Shoremen to an unbeaten regularseason Centennial Conference record and guided the Shoremen to aschool-record 18 wins and their first berth in the NCAA DivisionIII Semifinals in since 1998.
Clarke came to Chestertown from Division I Loyola College inBaltimore. With Clarke on the staff, the Greyhounds finished the1998 season ranked number two in the nation in NCAA Division I. AtLoyola, Clarke served as the team's offensive coordinator, a rolehe also played as an assistant at Duke University and RoanokeCollege.
Before his position at Loyola in 1998, Clarke served as the headlacrosse coach at Greensboro College in North Carolina in 1997. Injust one season, he turned a 3-9 record from the previous year intoa 9-5 mark and a Top 20 Division III national ranking.
Clarke's first college coaching stop was at Ohio StateUniversity as an assistant, and then on to Roanoke, where he hadplayed as an undergraduate. After a year as an assistant atRoanoke, Clarke moved on to Duke University, where he worked forfour years as the offensive coordinator.
Greensboro College offered him the head coaching position in1996. While working his magic there in the Spring of 1997, he drewthe attention of the people at Loyola, and was hired as anassistant there for the 1998 season.
In over two decades in coaching, including five years at thehigh school level, teams with which Clarke has been involved havewon 310 games and lost only 104.
