Hugh McAdam returns to Washington College as assistant coach of the women's rowing program in the fall of 2026, back where his own rowing career began.
A 2008 graduate of Washington College, McAdam started rowing as a freshman and competed for the men's team through his senior season. He earned several awards while a student athlete, including Most Valuable Player, as well as being a Student Athlete Mentor. After graduating, he pursued the sport at the elite level, training with Riverside Boat Club, Potomac Boat Club, and the Green Racing Project. He competed in the Diamond Challenge Sculls at Royal Henley Regatta in 2021, the lightweight single at World Cups in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017. He also competed at the 2015 World Championships in the lightweight quad, and in the 2018 World Championships in the lightweight double. Domestically, McAdam has won numerous national championships and has won the Head of the Charles 5 times.
Prior to returning to Washington College, he worked for USRowing in several capacities, including Referee Programs, and Camp and Athlete Development. He also spends several years with NCSA as a recruiting coach. As a coach, McAdam started his career with Skidmore College, he also coached summer camps at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, and was a volunteer coach with the Dartmouth Lightweights.
McAdam earned his degree in Psychology from Washington College 2008. He lives in Lake Shore with his wife Brooke, son Hugh McAdam, V, and their fluffy dog, Lady
