Washington College has certainly seen its share of successful female two-sport athletes, but few have reached the heights in both of their sports as those reached by Mandy Paré. An All-American in field hockey and an All-Region performer in lacrosse, Mandy’s accomplishments in both sports are impressive.
In field hockey, Mandy was a 1998 All-America second-team selection at midfield. She was a two-time All-Region first-team selection and a three-time All-Centennial Conference pick, nabbing honorable mention in 1996 and first-team honors in 1997 and 1998. She was chosen to play in the 1998 North-South Senior All-Star Game, was a team captain as a junior and senior, and finished her career with nine goals and 17 assists.
With Mandy on the team, Washington College field hockey burst onto the national scene. The Shorewomen made their first two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in 1996 and 1997 and won a share of their first Centennial Conference Championship in 1997, becoming just the second women’s team in school history to win a conference title. In Mandy’s four seasons on the team, the Shorewomen won 50 games and lost only 22.
In lacrosse, Mandy was a 1999 All-Region second-team midfielder and a two-time All-Centennial Conference selection, earning second-team honors in 1998 and first-team honors in 1999. She totaled 25 goals, 18 assists, 175 ground balls, 138 draw controls, and 64 caused turnovers in her career and holds the school records for draw controls in a single season with 69 and in a single game with 10. The Shorewomen lacrosse team turned a corner during Mandy’s career, going 2-12 her freshman year, but 12-5 her senior year.
It should come as no surprise that Mandy was named the College’s Senior Athletic Award winner in 1999.
Washington College considers it an honor and a privilege to induct Amanda M.T. Paré into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 22nd day of October, 2011.
