Betty Weller was one of the most outstanding two-way, all-around players in the history of Washington College women’s lacrosse. She also was one of the better players for the College’s fledgling women’s soccer program.

Betty was the first player in the women’s lacrosse team’s history to earn All-Centennial Conference first-team honors three times, doing so in 2001, 2002, and 2003. Only one other Shorewoman has done that since. She was also a three-time All-Region selection, landing on the first team in 2003, and a two-time All-American, receiving honorable mention in 2001 and first-team accolades in 2003. She was a 2003 North-South Senior All-Star and a 2003 ECAC All-Star.

One of the most effective midfielders on the defensive end the program has ever seen, Betty ranks third in school history with 94 career caused turnovers and fifth with 197 career ground balls. She was also a threat on the offensive end, finishing with exactly 100 career points on 75 goals and 25 assists.

In four years with Betty on the team, the Shorewomen went 44-25, qualifying for three Centennial Conference Tournament and two ECAC Tournament appearances. She played for the first two 14-win teams in program history.

On the soccer field, Betty tallied five career goals and one career assist in four seasons. In Betty’s sophomore season, the Shorewomen – then in just their third-ever varsity season – won eight games. They equaled that mark Betty’s senior year.

Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Betty Ann Weller Reed into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 1st day of October, 2016.
