Brilliant achievements in indoor and outdoor track highlighted the athletic career of Danny Scharf at Washington College.

Indoors, he set the Middle Atlantic Conference record in the 600-yard run as a sophomore in 1974 and won the event the next two years–breaking his own mark with a time of 1:13.7 in 1976.

In his last three years of competition, he won all 15 of his indoor races. Outdoors, he won 50 of 61 events entered. His range was broad–the 100, 220, 440, 440 intermediate hurdles, the 880, mile and relays.

Competing in team relays, which he usually anchored, Scharf recorded 16 wins in 19 races.
