Frederick W. Schroeter had his college baseball career interrupted by World War II but nevertheless played four solid years of the diamond sport for the late J. Thomas Kibler.

He played shortstop on the powerhouse clubs of 1942 and 1943 before he joined the U.S. Marine Corps.

Fred Schroeter returned to be a standout on Kibler’s 1946 and 1947 ball clubs, the latter playing the University of Delaware for the Mason-Dixon Conference crown.

He signed a bonus contract with Branch Rickey’s burgeoning Brooklyn Dodger system and played for Newport News in the Piedmont League and in New England. Schroeter went on to have a number of outstanding years on Baltimore area semi-pro baseball nines.

While at Washington College he was a student leader, member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national honorary leadership society.
