Richard Yost played just two seasons in goal for the Washington College men’s lacrosse team after transferring in as a junior, but they were two of the finest seasons ever turned in by a Shoreman goalie in terms of statistics, accolades, and team success.
During the 2003 season, Richard posted a save percentage of .658 and a goals-against average of just 6.11. The Shoremen went undefeated in regular-season Centennial Conference games to earn hosting rights for the four-team Centennial Conference Tournament. In that tournament, Richard made 38 saves and allowed just eight goals across two games as the Shoremen won their first Centennial Conference Championship in six years, securing an NCAA Division III Tournament berth in the process.
The 2004 campaign saw Richard, now a team captain, post a .649 save percentage and a 7.34 goal-against average for the Shoremen as they went 18-2 to establish a new single-season school record for wins. Washington advanced all the way to the NCAA Division III Semifinals that spring.
Richard was named both a second-team All-American and first-team All-Centennial Conference selection following both of his seasons at the College. He was also named a 2003 ECAC All-Star, a 2004 North-South Senior All-Star, and a 2004 USILA Scholar All-American. He shared the College’s Eldridge Eliason Award as a senior.
Since graduation, Richard has served the College on both the Sho’men Club Board and Alumni Board.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Richard Lyle Yost into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 1st day of October, 2016.
