Ron was a starter on two varsity teams, baseball and basketball, for the four years he attended Washington College.

On the baseball team he was the mainstay of the pitching staff. His record for four years was 18-8. The 1953-54 baseball team won the Mason-Dixon Conference and Ron pitched a shutout in the championship game.

In basketball he was an outstanding guard and play maker.

He won the Simpers Medal his senior year.

After college, Ron was assistant basketball coach at Washington College from 1960-63 and head coach from 1963-65. He also was head baseball coach from 1961-65.

His 1964 team was 13-4 and captured division titles in both the Mason-Dixon and Middle Atlantic Conferences.
