Box Score Ward Records Double-Double in Career

CARLISLE, PA -- Senior setter Caitlin Ward
(Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) recorded her fourth
double-double of the season with team-highs of 22 assists and 15
digs, but it was not enough as host Dickinson swept visiting
Washington College, 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 27-25), at the Kline Center
this afternoon in a Centennial Conference volleyball match. With
the victory, Dickinson closes out the 2009 season at 7-16 overall
and 4-6 in the conference, while the Shorewomen finish the campaign
at 11-15 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
Ward finishes her career with 3,302 assists and 707
digs. Her 15 digs tied her for tops in the match with two Dickinson
players.
In the opening set, Dickinson led 16-15 before
going on a 5-1 run to take a 21-16 lead. Washington responded with
a 7-3 sput to cut the hosts lead to 24-23 on a combined block by
senior middle hitter Kelli Canada (Midlothian, VA/James
River) and freshman outside hitter Jenny Lee
(Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant). But a service error by WC
ended the opening set.
The Red Devils snapped a 3-3 tie in the second set
with six straight points to take a 9-3 lead and went to cruise to a
15-point win.
Washington led 21-14 in the third set and still led
24-19 at the first set point, but could not close out the set.
Dickinson won six straight points to grab a 25-24 lead. The
Shorewomen tied the score at 25-25 on a kill by sophomore outside
hitter Alyssa Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack
Valley), but a kill by Elitsa Gosheva
gave the hosts a 26-25 lead and a Kristen Lee kill
ended the set and the match.
For the Red Devils, Elitsa Gosheva
led the squad with 13 kills and added 15 digs, which tied for the
match-high, to record a double-double. Chelsea
Winkert had a double-double too with a match-high 28
assists and tied Gosheva and Ward for tops in the contest with 15
digs. Lee had 14 digs, while Amanda Hayes had 13
digs.
For the Shorewomen, junior libero Traci
Daelemans (Tracys Landing, MD/Southern) had 14 digs.
Two Shorewomen, Ward and Canada had their careers
come to a close today.
