Glasser, Gerhart Combine to Win Five
Individual Events
CHESTER, PA - Junior Rachel Glasser (Silver
Spring, MD/Springbrook) and senior Kathy Gerhart
(Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) combined to win five
individual events as visiting Washington College defeated host
Widener University, 119-81, in non-conference women's swimming this
afternoon in Chester, PA. The Shorewomen improved ton 4-2 with the
win, while the Pride slipped to 1-5 with the loss.
Glasser won the 400 individual medley in a
Washington College season-best time of 4:44.03 to become the
Shorewomen's third-fastest swimmer ever in the event. She also won
the 100 butterfly in 59.57 and the 500 freestyle in 5:16.93.
Gerhart took the 200 freestyle in 2:02.91 and the 100 freestyle in
54.72.
Freshman Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern
Valley-Demarest) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:27.32 and
was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:35.40. Freshman
Melanie Craig (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) captured
first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.31. Washington also won
the 200 medley relay as senior Amy Smith (Phoenixville,
PA/Phoenixville Area), Craig, Gerhart, and sophomore
Mary Stroman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) completed the race
in 1:55.59.
Freshman Darcy Zink (Baltimore,
MD/Towson) placed second in both the 200 freestyle
(2:07.70) and the 100 backstroke (1:05.87), while Stroman was
second in the 50 freestyle (26.47), freshman Alix Batesko
(Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) placed second in the
100 butterfly (1:04.42), and freshman Emma Jackovitz (Bel
Air, MD/Bel Air) finished second in the 1000 freestyle
(11.53.23).
