Ripple Makes 15 Saves in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Seventeenth-ranked Johns Hopkins University scored four goals in a span of less than 12 minutes in the second half to turn a 1-0 halftime lead into a 5-0 Centennial Conference women's soccer victory over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Blue Jays improved to 5-2 overall, while the Shorewomen slipped to 3-2 overall. The game was the conference opener for both teams.

The Shorewomen held the Blue Jays off the scoreboard for most of the first half before Leslie O'Brien sent in a rebound following a shot off the crossbar by Erin Stafford at 41:25. Johns Hopkins held a 14-0 advantage in shots in the first half.

The Blue Jays made it 2-0 when Erin Stafford sent a corner kick to Erica Suter, who headed the ball into the net at 57:55 and tacked on their third goal at 59:26 on a penalty kick by Laura Moody. Hopkins scored its fourth goal at 65:54 when Suter sent a cross into the box to Stafford. Allie Zazzali made it 5-0 with a goal on a breakaway off an assist from Stafford at 69:09.

Johns Hopkins held a 32-2 advantage in shots in the game and recorded all eight of the contest's corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Ripple (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) made 15 saves in the loss for the Shorewomen.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. game at Hood.
