Box Score Lee and White Both Rack Up Double-Doubles
Chestertown, MD – Gettysburg's Kate Yoder
had a match-high 19 kills, while hitting .412 in the match, and the
Bullets successfully defended seven set points in the fourth set en
route to a 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 14-25, 31-29) win over Washington
College on Friday night at the Cain Athletic Center in Centennial
Conference volleyball action. Gettysburg improves to 13-12
overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Washington drops to 10-15
and 2-4 respectively.
The Bullets took the first two sets from the Shorewomen, before
Washington grabbed the third set, 25-14. The Shorewomen led
13-9 when they scored 12 of the next 17 points to take the
set. A kill by sophomore outside hitter Jenny Lee
(Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) gave WC a 19-10 lead and
led to a timeout by the Bullets. Junior outside hitter

Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) closed out the
set with a kill to give WC the 25-14 triumph. It was the
first set victory for WC over Gettysburg since winning the first
set, 15-12, on September 24, 1994, a span of 50 sets.
In the fourth set, Washington led 15-11 when Nicole
Burns of Gettysburg tallied a kill that would ignite a
10-4 run to put the Bullets up 21-19. The run was capped on
an attack error by the Shorewomen. WC would respond though
with a 5-1 run to grab a 24-22 lead on a service ace by senior
defensive specialist/libero Traci
Daelemans (Tracys Landing, MD/Southern).
The Bullets won win the next two points to even the score at
24-24 on a WC attack miscue. An attack error by Gettysburg
gave WC a 25-24 lead and set point, but a Burns kill to tie it at
25-25. Washington won the next point to lead 26-25 on a Lee
kill, but Jamie Huffman's kill squared it at
26-26. Lee tallied a kill on the next point to give the
Shorewomen a 27-26 lead, but a Burns kill knotted it at
27-27. A Forget finisher on a kill put WC up 28-27, but
Gettysburg would level the set at 28-28 on a Yoder kill.
Forget put Washington up one last time at 29-28 on a kill before
the Bullets scored the last three points to take the set and the
match. Yoder tallied back-to-back kills to put Gettysburg up
30-29 and Marcella Pallete recorded the set and
match clinching kill to give the Bullets the 31-29 set win and the
match victory in four set.
The two reigning Centennial Conference Co-Players of the Week
squared off in the match, Lizzy Kuhn of Gettysburg
and freshman setter Lauren
White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown). Both
tallied double-doubles as Kuhn had a match-high 42 assists and tied
for match best in digs with 16, while White recorded a team-leading
28 assists and tied Kuhn for the most digs with 16. It was
White's seventh double-double in her last 11 matches.
Burns had 13 kills and hit .400 in the match as Gettysburg hit
.211 in the win. Becca Rubenstein had 13
digs and Huffman chipped in with 11 digs.
For Washington, Lee totaled her fourth double-double in her last
five matches with a team-best 11 kills to go along with 10
digs. Lee and Daelemans tied for the tops in the match with
five service aces each. Sophomores, defensive specialist
Rita Rivera
(Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and
libero/defensive specialist Kaitlin
Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus) both 10 digs. The
Shorewomen served up 15 aces in the contest.
Washington travels to Haverford on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m.
Centennial Conference volleyball match.
