Phipps Makes Nine Saves in Loss

HAVERFORD, PA -- David Restrepo scored in the 88th minute to give host Haverford College a 1-0 Centennial Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon.

The Fords (8-5-2, 4-3-1 Centennial) held an 8-6 advantage in shots and recorded all five corner kicks in a scoreless first half. Haverford came out strong in the second half, but it was not until the Fords' 16th shot of that period that they were able to get on the scoreboard. Alejandro Rettig y Martinez sent a cross to Restrepo, who knocked it into the right side of the goal from 15 yards out at 87:16. The Shoremen (4-11-1, 1-6-1) nearly tied the score in the 90th minute but sophomore midfielder/defender Tim Marcin (Wilmington, DE/Concord) had his shot saved by Haverford goalkeeper Nick Kahn at 89:40.

Haverford finished with a 24-14 advantage in shots and a 10-5 edge in corner kicks in the game.  Kahn made seven saves in the win, while Washington junior goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made nine.

The Shoremen close out their season Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference game at nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins.
