Marshall Clinches Match with Win at No. 2
Singles
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College won at
two of the three doubles spots and five of the six singles sports
to post a 7-2 Centennial Conference women's tennis victory over
visiting Gettysburg this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The
Shorewomen improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play with
the win, while the Bullets fell to 5-3 and 0-2 with the loss.
In doubles, WC sophomore Jordan Finnegan
(Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore
Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep,
MD) rolled to an 8-0 win over Katie
Taylor and Meghan Kelly at No. 1. Senior
Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) and
freshman Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's
School) topped Kelly Eurich and
Lydia MacKenzie, 8-4, at No. 2. Gettysburg picked
up a point at No. 3 as Kylle O'Sullivan and
Liz Heisler defeated freshman Kat Cohen
(Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and
freshman Victoria Peel-Margraf (Montauk, NY/East
Hampton), 8-4.
The Shorewomen took a 4-1 lead following a 6-1,
6-3, win by McNicol at No. 4 singles over Kelly and a 6-1, 6-3,
victory by Finnegan at No. 1 over Eurich. Marshall clinched the win
for the Shorewomen when she completed a 7-5, 6-3, triumph over
Taylor at No. 2. Foster bested O'Sullivan, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3
and Cohen beat MacKenzie, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 5 for Washington's other
two points. Laura Habecker defeated WC junior
Kristine Depew (Downingtown, PA/Westtown School),
6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles for the Bullets' lone singles win.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00
p.m. home match against St. Mary's (MD).
