Washington Improves to 3-1 with
Win
ORLANDO, FL -- The Washington College women's
tennis team improved to 3-1 this season with a 7-2 win over NAIA
school Bethel (TN) University this afternoon in Orlando, FL. The
Shorewomen won at the top two doubles spots and five of the six
singles spots.
Sophomore Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington,
DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Brittany
Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) defeated
Kim Dinh and Maycela Santos, 8-3,
at No. 1 doubles, while senior Kellie Foster (Lothian,
MD/St. Mary's) and freshman Campbell McNicol (Mill
Neck, NY/St. George's School) downed Tori
Bianaco and Erica Peterson, 8-3, at No.
2. Lovetta Montemonyou and Paige
Martin were 8-5 winners for Bethel at No. 3 over freshmen
Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton
School) and Victoria Peel-Margraf (Montauk,
NY/East Hampton).
Finnegan defeated Dinh, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, at No. 1
singles. Santos beat McNicol, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles for
Bethel's only singles win. The Shorewomen had little trouble in the
rest of the singles matches. Marshall rolled past Montemonyou, 6-1,
6-0, at No. 3, Foster blanked Peterson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4, Cohen
handled Martin, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5, and Peel-Margraf trumped
Bianaco, 7-6(4), 6-2, at No. 6.
The Shorewomen will play two more matches in
Orlando Friday, taking on Drew and UW-La Crosse.
