Box Score Madore Posts 12 Saves in
Victory
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior goalie Amber Madore (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) made 12 saves as the
Washington College women's lacrosse team downed visiting Ursinus
College, 9-5, in a Centennial Conference game this afternoon on
Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shorewomen improved to
6-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play with the win, while the
Bears fell to 8-4 and 3-2 with the loss.
Ursinus struck first as Kim Peifer
scored with 21:53 to go in the first. WC freshman attacker
Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) then
netted a goal with 19:34 left and a free-position goal with 16:44
on the clock to make it 2-1 in favor of the Shorewomen.
Emily Diehl scored a free-position goal with 13:34
to go to even the score at 2-2 but free-position goals by sophomore
attacker Kalli Parrish (Timonium, MD/McDonogh
School) and junior attacker Sarah Cannon
(Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) with 11:02 and 2:18
remaining in the first half, respectively, gave the Shorewomen a
4-2 lead at the intermission.
Allison Furman cut the lead to 4-3
when she scored off a Peifer assist with 25:00 left in the second
half, but the Shorewomen scored the next four goals to open up an
8-3 lead. Parrish opened the run with a free-position goal with
24:27 remaining. Sophomore midfielder Rachel Bartee (Mount
Airy, MD/South Carroll) then scored one goal off a feed
from senior midfielder Allie Hanzsche (Catonsville,
MD/Mount de Sales) with 17:05 left and another off an
assist from junior midfielder Sam Ohrem (Ridgefield,
CT/Ridgefield) with 12:48 to go. Freshman midfielder
Mollie Shipley (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic)
finished the run with a goal with 9:01 to play. Meghan
Morley then scored off a free-position at 5:09 left, but
Hanzsche found Cannon for a goal with 2:11 to go. Kristen
Wampole scored on a free-position for Ursinus with 47
seconds to go to provide the final margin.
Ziccardi, Parrish, Cannon, and Bartee each scored
two goals for the Shorewomen in the game.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00
p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel.
