#13 Hopkins Tops Shorewomen, 6-2

Finnegan & Marshall Post Impressive Win at No. 1 Doubles

BALTIMORE, MD -- Host Johns Hopkins University, ranked 13th in the nation and fourth in the Atlantic South region, downed visiting Washington College, ranked 18th in the region, 6-2, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match this afternoon in Baltimore, MD. The Blue Jays improved to 10-7 overall and 7-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 10-4 and 5-3 with the loss.

Despite the loss, the Shorewomen got a big win at No. 1 doubles where sophomore Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD), the region's 11th-ranked doubles team, knocked off Anita Bhamidipati and Carolyn Warren, 8-4. Finnegan and Marshall are now 15-0 at No. 1 doubles this spring.

Elsewhere in doubles, Courtney Boger and Nandita Krishnan beat senior Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School), 8-2, at No. 2 and Candace Wu and Ellen Berlinghof downed freshman Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and freshman Kelsey Mills (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-South Dorchester), 8-0, at No. 3 as the Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead.

Warren, ranked fifth in the region, beat Finnegan, ranked 20th, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Krishnan, ranked sixth, topped Marshall, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2, while Bhamidipati, ranked 23rd, downed Foster, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3. McNicol picked up Washington's second point of the match with an 8-6 win over Mallory Willenborg at No. 4. Wu downed Cohen, 8-2, at No. 5. Number six singles was not played.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at McDaniel.
