Finnegan Rolls to 6-0, 6-0 Win at No. 1
Singles
LANCASTER, PA -- The Washington College women's
tennis team won at the top two spots in doubles and top five spots
in singles en route to a 7-2 Centennial Conference victory over
host Franklin & Marshall College this afternoon. The Shorewomen
improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win,
while the Diplomats fell to 5-5 and 1-3 with the loss.
In doubles, WC sophomore Jordan Finnegan
(Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore
Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep,
MD) posted an 8-6 victory over Meredith
Lackey and Dana Russo at No. 1, while
senior Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) and
freshman Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's
School) topped Valeri Harteg and
Danielle Weiner, 8-5, at No. 2. F&M picked up
its first point of the match at No. 3 where Victoria
Balonik and Katie Ertel downed freshman
Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton
School) and freshman Kelsey Mills (Cambridge,
MD/Cambridge-South Dorchester), 8-4, at No. 3.
Finnegan rolled to a 6-0, 6-0, win against Lackey
at No. 1 singles, while Marshall beat Weiner by retirement at No. 2
after leading, 5-2, in the first set. Foster bested Russo, 6-3,
6-3, at No. 3, while McNicol topped Harteg, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4 and
Cohen defeated Ertel, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5. F&M won at No. 6 as
Balonik downed Mills, 6-0, 6-0.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a
3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Swarthmore.
