Ohrem Scores Two Goals, Notches One Assist in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Jen Schmidt scored the only overtime goal 2:14 into the extra period as visiting Haverford College edged host Washington College, 10-9, in a Centennial Conference women's lacrosse game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Fords improved to 10-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen dropped to 5-4 and 1-3 with the loss.

Haverford jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game. Perrin Downin opened the scoring off an assist from Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds with 21:53 to play in the first half, while Herrick-Reynolds made it 2-0 at 20:33. Alexa Pesce finished the run with a goal at 19:35. The Shorewomen got on the board on a free-position shot by freshman attacker Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) with 15:14 to go in the period and junior midfielder Sam Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) cut the margin to 3-2 with 8:58 left. Josie Ferri answered for Haverford with a free-position goal with 7:51 to play, but Ohrem trimmed the lead back to a goal with 2:47 remaining off a feed from freshman midfielder Mollie Shipley (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic).

The Fords opened the second-half scoring with a goal by Herrick-Reynolds three minutes in to make it 5-3. The Shorewomen then scored the next three goals to takes their first lead of the game. Junior attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored on a free-position shot with 22:59 left and Shipley found sophomore midfielder Rachel Bartee (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) for a goal eight seconds later off the ensuing draw. Shipley scored the Shorewomen's sixth goal with 21:41 remaining in regulation, but Downin evened the score at 18:52. Washington scored the next two goals to take an 8-6 lead as freshman midfielder Marissa Restaino (Media, PA/Penncrest) scored off an assist from Ziccardi at 14:49 and Bartee scored off a pass from Ohrem with 12:39 left.

Haverford countered by scoring the next three goals. Schmidt opened the run off a Pesce assist at 10:01 before Ferri scored with 8:42 left and assisted on a goal by Nora Proops with 7:48 remaining to give Haverford a 9-8 lead. Cannon sent the game into overtime with a free-position goal with 20.5 seconds left.

Schmidt's overtime goal came off a Pesce feed. Washington had its final possession begin in Haverford territory with just over 10 seconds left and advanced the ball upfield, but could not get a shot off before the buzzer.

Ferri and Herrick-Reynolds each had two goals and an assist for the Fords, while Downin and Schmidt scored two goals each. Pesce added a goal and two assists. Leah Hammerschlag made 10 saves in goal for Haverford.

Ohrem paced the Shorewomen with two goals and one assist, while Cannon and Bartee each had two goals. Shipley had a goal and two assists for Washington.

Haverford held a 26-25 edge in shots in the game and controlled 14 of the game's 22 draws.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Ursinus.
