Box Score CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Cabrini College scored a pair
of second-half goals to secure a 2-0 win and spoil the home opened
for the Washington College women's soccer team this afternoon on
Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the
first half as the Shorewomen took a 6-4 edge in shots into the
intermission. Washington's first shot of the game nearly gave the
Shorewomen a 1-0 lead; junior defender/midfielder Kelsey Newborn (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had her shot
stopped just in front of the line by Cabrini defender Amy
Loesser at the 2:13 mark.
The Cavaliers notched their first goal of the game at
65:04 when Michelle Kane booted in a rebound
following a save by junior goalkeeper Tori Ripple
(Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) on a shot by Loesser.
Morgan Hudson made it 2-0 at 72:06 when she fired
the ball into the opposite corner from the right side of the box
after receiving a pass from Dana
Nardello.
The Shorewomen got off three shots after Hudson's
goal, the final one a long, lofting blast from sophomore defender
Kim McClellan (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) that
Cabrini goalkeeper Gianna Poretta saved at
84:50.
Washington held a 14-9 advantage in shots in the
game, while Cabrini held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Porretta
finished with six saves for the Cavaliers, while Ripple had five
for the Shorewomen. Nardello had a game-high five shots, while
sophomore forward Katie Bradley (Havre de Grace,
MD/Fallston) had a team-best three off the bench for
Washington.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00
p.m. home game against Hood.
