Box Score Ripple Makes 11 Saves in Shutout Win
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior goalkeeper Tori Ripple
(Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) made 11 saves and the
Washington College women's soccer team scored a pair of second-half
goals to blank visiting Hood College, 2-0, this afternoon on Kibler
Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
Neither team scored in the first half, though there was no
shortage of offense on either end. The Shorewomen (2-1-1)
recorded 10 shots in the period, while the Blazers (2-4) registered
nine. Fifteen of the combined 19 shots in the first half were
on goal.
Washington broke through at 72:59 when junior
midfielder Gabby Devaud
(Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) sent a cross in
from left of the box which was tapped by senior midfielder
Katie Weida
(Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Country Day) over to junior
forward/midfielder Kira
Pancotti (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Briarcliff), who booted
the ball into the right side of the net.
The Shorewomen tacked on an insurance goal at 86:20
when sophomore defender Kim
McClellan (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) sent a corner
kick in to sophomore defender Gabby
Antalffy (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point), who fired a
ball that went of the crossbar and into the goal. The assist was
the first of McClellan's collegiate career.
Washington finished with a 20-14 edge in shots in the
game, while Hood recorded 10 of the game's 15 corner
kicks.
Ripple recorded nine of her 11 saves in the first
half. Junior defender Corinne
Welker (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) recorded a team save
at the 61:25 mark on a shot by Hood's Megan
Kowalewski. Rachellle Buhrman
and Kirsten Cacciola each played a half for
Hood in goal. Buhrman made six saves in the first half, while
Cacciola made four in the second.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with their
Centennial Conference opener, a 1:00 p.m. game at Johns
Hopkins.
