CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's swim team picked up its first dual meet win of the season this afternoon, defeating visiting Elizabethtown, 116-58, in a non-conference meet inside Casey Swim Center.
Senior Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) won the 100 freestyle in 52.26 and the 200 individual medley in 2:10.65 for the Shoremen (1-5), while junior Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven) won the 100 backstroke in 58.91 and the 200 freestyle in 1:56.12. Junior Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) finished first in the 100 butterfly in 59.06 and swam the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke as an exhibition, finishing in 1:06.34. Sophomore A.J. Feurer (Kingsville, MD/Archbishop Curley) placed first in the 500 freestyle in 5:21.40, while junior Ross Mills (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:27.55.
Longworth, Auger, senior Tim Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield), and freshman Robert Mix (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) won the 200 medley relay in 1:47.11.
Mix was second in both the 200 individual medley (2:12.91) and the 500 freestyle (5:25.31). Feurer was second in the 200 freestyle (1:59.23), Beadell was second in the 50 freestyle (24.43), Mills was second in the 100 butterfly (1:01.32), and sophomore Robert Homer (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) was second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.24).
The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Dickinson.
