Finnegan Clinches Win with Victory at No. 3 Singles
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season at 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference with a 7-2 win over visiting Muhlenberg this afternoon inside the Johnson Fitness Center. The Shorewomen entered the match ranked 14th in the Atlantic South region, while Muhlenberg was ranked 15th.
Juniors Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep [MD]), the region's seventh-ranked doubles team, posted a convincing 8-1 win over Caitie Druker and Sara Sutker at No. 1 doubles, while freshman Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) and sophomore Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) were 8-2 winners against Lindsay Schmidt and Danielle Winston at No. 2. Muhlenberg picked up the win at No. 3 doubles where Nina Sanders and Emily Szulman were 9-8(1) winners against sophomore Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and freshman Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan).
In singles, Marshall, the region's 15th-ranked player, beat Druke, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6, at No. 1, while Bercovici cruised past Sutker, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. Finnegan clinched the win for Washington with a 6-0, 6-4, victory against Sanders at No. 3. McNicol added a 6-4, 6-4, win against Winston at No. 4 and Cohen was a 6-3, 7-5, victor against Schmidt at No. 5. Muhlenberg's second point came at No. 6 as Szulman bested Daller, 6-3, 4-6, 10-3.
Finnegan and Marshall's doubles record this spring remained a perfect 10-0, while Marshall, Bercovici, and Finnegan all upped their singles records this spring to 10-0 as well.
The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Bryn Mawr.
