Washington Improves to 11-0 this Season
BRYN MAWR, PA -- The Washington College women's tennis team improved to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in Centennial Conference play with an 8-1 win over host Bryn Mawr this afternoon. The Shorewomen's top three singles players and top doubles team each improved to 11-0 this spring during the match.
The Atlantic South region's seventh-ranked doubles team had little trouble at No. 1 as juniors Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep [MD]) blanked the Bryn Mawr tandem of Eliza Perocchi and Vivian Chen, 8-0. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and freshman Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) were 8-5 winners against Elizabeth Olecki and Jenny Vogel. Freshman Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) and sophomore Kelsey Mills (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-South Dorchester) added an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles against Catherine Austin and Zoe Odenwalder.
Bercovici, Marshall, and Finnegan did not lose a single game in the top three singles spots. Bercovici downed Perocchi, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1. At No. 2, Marshall, the region's 15th-ranked singles player, was a 6-0, 6-0, winner at No. 2. Finnegan shut out Vogel at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Cohen added a 6-4, 6-1, victory against Melanie Shafer at No. 4, while Daller blanked Olecki, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Bryn Mawr's lone point came at No. 6 as Odenwalder downed freshman Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford), 6-2, 6-4.
The Shorewomen, ranked 14th as a team in the region, return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match at nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins.
