Box Score Haas Scores Both of Shoremen's Goals in Win
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior forward Jordan Haas (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) scored twice off assists from freshman midfielder Matt Wilfong (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) to lift host Washington College to a 2-1 Centennial Conference men's soccer win over visiting Haverford tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shoremen (3-4-1, 1-2 Centennial) have now beaten the Fords (3-5, 0-3) in four of the last five meetings between the two teams.
The Shoremen held a 6-4 advantage in shots in a scoreless first half. Haverford appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute, but the goal was waved off due to an offsides call. The Shoremen got on the board at 55:58 when Wilfong passed to Haas inside the box for the first goal of the game. Haverford evened the score soon thereafter as Colin Lobelczyk sent a long ball ahead to David Restrepo, who found the back of the net in transition at 57:57. Haas scored the game-winner at 79:41 as he received a through ball from Wilfong and fired a shot from 15 yards out that went off the top of Haverford goalkeeper Andriy Mshanetskyy's hand and into the top of the net.
The Fords held a 15-13 advantage in shots in the game, but the Shoremen had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made five saves in the win for Washington, while Mshanetskyy made six for the Fords.
The Shoremen are back in action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Ursinus.
